Travel Services Trainees Visit British Airways

As part of the Travel Services course, trainees have the opportunity to take part in two training days at British Airways Community Learning Centre at Heathrow.

The first day is a customer service programme, which includes British Airways branding and service style. Trainees take part in simulated airline customer service situations, using the centres’ mock check-in area and aircraft cabin. They take on the role of customer service agents and cabin crew as they deal with a variety of customer situations. A visit is also arranged to Waterside, British Airways corporate headquarters, to experience internal customer service first hand and appreciate the layout and working environment of a modern, dynamic and flexible office.

On the second day trainees are given an overview of the recruitment and selection process. British Airways employs a diverse work force and is committed to delivering excellent customer service. The programme explores the qualities and skills required to work in this role in the airline industry, and includes completing personal profiles, job advert scanning and the completion of a British Airways customer service job application form. Trainees then take part in mock group interviews, individual presentations and one to one interviews with developmental feedback. In addition, the British Airways Diversity Executive gives an informative presentation regarding their company’s positive attitude to the employment of people with disabilities.

Feedback from Travel Services trainees who have taken part in these days is very positive. They find the days fun, stimulating, informative and very worthwhile and excellent preparation for entering the job market in the near future.
