JACKIE RETURNS TO TELL US HER SUCCESS STORY
"Why the Training at Q.E.F.T.C. is perfect for the job."
Jackie Keogh completed the Office Administration course here at Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation Training College in April 2002.
She came back to visit us and gave a presentation to some of the current trainees and staff (including the Principal) to explain how much being at the College had helped her.
When Jackie had first started the course, she suffered from panic attacks and found it difficult to be in unfamiliar buildings, and she always sat near the door. With the help and support given by the instructors, she gradually gained in confidence and quickly obtained units for an advanced level qualification. Employers were so impressed with her that she was offered no less than 5 work placements! However, she didn’t need to take up any of their offers.
Jackie had applied to the Hampshire Constabulary for a job as an Administrator in the Criminal Justice Unit at Basingstoke Police Station, and she was offered the job! She has now been there 3 years and is thoroughly enjoying it.
Jackie’s presentation (see picture above) showed how relevant the training she had done here was to the job she is now doing. She explained that the training course got her into the right frame of mind for going back to work and for realising the importance of getting to work on time. She also said that although filing and post are not her favourite jobs, they are still jobs you have to do. She found that what she had learnt about the Data Protection Act and the correct use of e-mail very relevant as confidentiality is most important in her current job.
Jackie said "I can’t believe the amount of things I learnt on the course at Q.E.F.T.C. that I now use in the job. The social life was great as well, and I made a lot of friends."
