DR. LOUISE CLOWES RECEIVES LEAGUE OF MERCY AWARD

Dr. LouiseDr. Louise Clowes has been honoured with the League of Mercy’s prestigious medal of the Order of Mercy for her outstanding voluntary service on behalf of Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation. Dr. Clowes received her award at a ceremony held at The Mansion House in the City of London in the presence of the Lord Mayor of London and many distinguished guests.

Sir Robert Balchin, president of the League of Mercy presenting the Award commented, “Dr. Clowes has done extraordinary work for the welfare of others. She is a marvellous example of someone who has given wonderful service to her community and we were delighted to be able, on the recommendation of her charity, to make this well deserved award.”

It was not a difficult decision for the Foundation to recommend their friend and Governor for this award, as Dr. Clowes has personally been responsible for raising over £500,000, for the charity which works to provide solutions for disabled people.

A retired paediatrician living in Walton on the Hill, Dr. Clowes became closely involved with the Foundation in the early 1980s. Through a variety of innovative events, Dr. Clowes energised a whole network of parents and their children into her fundraising campaign, arranging dancing and badminton classes and discos and balls to entertain children during school holidays.

Dr. Clowes never did anything on a small scale hosting an enormous bring and buy sale in a marquee in her own garden which alone raised an impressive £6,000. And, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation’s 50 th anniversary, she organised a ball which on the night raised in excess of £25,000.

Having built up her contacts, Dr. Clowes then mobilised this force into action establishing a variety of regular events which are still just as popular today including the renowned Autumn Ladies Luncheon held at Epsom Racecourse now in its 13 th successful year.

Commenting on the nomination, Cynthia Robinson, Chief Executive, Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation said, “We took pride in nominating Dr. Clowes for this award and are delighted that her long serving, selfless dedication has been recognised by a wider audience than the Foundation alone. For around 30 years, Dr. Clowes has consistently striven to create a greater awareness of the work of Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation using both her creativity and powers of persuasion to raise vital funding.”
