FULL-TIME RESIDENTIAL PLACEMENTS
The Brain Injury Centre is open for 48 weeks a year; we close for the Easter and August Bank Holiday weeks and at Christmas.
Funding for a placement at the Brain Injury Centre is primarily provided by one or more of the Local Primary Care Trust, Social Services Department or the Learning & Skills Council, depending on individual need.
The Learning + Skills Council will consider an application from a client’s Career Advisor or Social Worker, where the client is aged between 16 and 25, taking into account the age at which they were affected by their disability and the amount of previous relevant further education they have received. The Learning + Skills Council will not fund the preliminary two-day assessment.
Primary Care Trusts, Social Services Departments and the Learning + Skills Council will undertake an assessment of need prior to agreeing to fund the placement. In addition, the Learning + Skills Council will need to be satisfied that the educational facilities available in the client’s local area are not adequate to meet the client’s needs.
Some client’s funding is made available from interim payments or settlements of compensation claims following an accident; funding may also be made available from the Criminal Injuries Authority or other private sources, if appropriate.
